The Fourth “Enlightening the World” Sungdae Myeongnyun Special Lecture


SKKUis inviting local and international scholars to diagnose issues of 2022 Korean society in a series of special lectures. The “Enlightening the World” Sungdae Myeongnyun lecture invites local and international scholars to predict and prepare for prospects andfuture strategies by sharing issues of different topics such as politics,economics, humanities, society. Etc.

 

The purpose of this lecture is to spread the school philosophy of 인의예지 (Benevolence,Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom), to produce premium lecture that cultivates personality of students and leads education of values by inviting local and international scholars and this semester is planning to invite the world’s top university faculty to increase SKKU students’ global capabilities.

Professor Walter Scheidel (April 12th) from Stanford University held a special lecture with ProfessorJa Myung Choi (Department of History) and the same for Professor David N.Weil (April 21st) from Brown University with Professor Sung Hyun Km(Dean, College of Economy) moderating.

In the upcoming fourth SKKU Myungnyun Special Lecture (April 29th, Friday 10 A.M.), Professor Robert Erikson from Columbia University will lecture about “Political Polarization” under the host of Political Science and Diplomacy Professor Joon Seok Yang. Professor Erikson is renowned in democratic political development and growth, political behavior, and political polarization and is  the author of “American Public Opinion” and “The Macro Polity.”


The moderator for this lecture, Professor Joon Seok Yang, said, “Political Polarization is one of the core problems when understanding various political and policy aspects of conflict democratic nations confront, including Korea nowadays. This lecture by Professor Erikson will provide diverse perspectives on political polarization, including the origins and trend of political polarization along with various social problems caused by it, focused on the cases of the U.S. Based on these, the lecture will provide us an opportunity to consider what implications will political polarization have and how to alleviate such problems.


This special lecture will be held both off/online (Real-time streaming) simultaneously, any faculty or student interested in the topic can access it through Zoom without prior application.
