- Hosted a metaverse construction competition for the first time in a domestic university

SKKU Information and Communications Division held the Metaverse Hackathon from Sep. 20 to 29. The Metaverse Hackathon is a program development competition that builds a creative and original metaverse within a limited time, and is an IT service construction project competition that runs from planning to production of the Metaverse.

This competition was based on the Roblox platform, and metaverse development requires abilities and skills in various fields such as project planning, graphic design, 3D modeling work, sound effects, and program development. As a result, 52 students with various majors were divided into 10 teams consisting of 3 to 6 people and held a metaverse production contest.

The theme of this competition was ‘Informing SKKU to Freshmen’, and it was intended to implement university life services and contents that can help freshmen in the metaverse. The participating team produced various contents such as Kingo mobile application usage tutorial, club promotion booth, university community linked to ‘Everytime’, campus tour, and finding nearby restaurants.

As a result of 20 student evaluation teams and 4 expert evaluation teams evaluating the contents of each team, the top prize of this competition was won by the team ‘ae-Geulyung’ (School of Convergence, Seoyoung Kang, Keun A Kim, Sumin Park, Seungjun Son, Seunga Lee, Yunseo Lee), which produced ‘CLUBLOX’.

This team, consisted of freshmen at the School of Convergence, based on the inconvenience they experienced in freshmen year, implemented a student center building so that the information about 40 central clubs in the HSSC Student Center can be grasped at a glance, and collected information on each club to decorate each club room on the metaverse.

Prof. Hyung Kee Choi (Vice President of Information and Communications) said, “In an era where interdisciplinary convergence is continuously emphasized, it was impressive that the students from the humanities and science and engineering students collaborated with each other to compete and produce excellent results. We will continue to strive to provide various opportunities for students to take an interest in and take on challenges in future-leading fields."
