Dr. Seo Seung-hwan (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering) Receives Commendation from the Minister of Education for Outstanding Participation in BK21 Project



Dr. Seo Seung-hwan, who participated as a graduate student in the 4th phase of the BK21 Sustainable ICT Future Talent Education and Research Group (headed by Professor Jeon Byeong-woo), from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been awarded a commendation from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education for 'Outstanding Participation in the 2023 4th Phase BK21 Project.'


This commendation aims to discover talents who have achieved excellent results among graduate students and junior researchers participating in the 4th phase of the BK21 project, supporting their growth. A total of 29 individuals received commendations.


Dr. Seo Seung-hwan participated in the BK21 project from September 2017 to August 2023 as part of the integrated master's and doctoral program. He researched the development of various logic and semiconductor devices using two-dimensional van der Waals materials. Dr. Seo published a total of 22 papers in top-tier international journals such as Nature, Nature Materials, Advanced Materials, and Nature Communications. Additionally, he presented papers at 28 international and domestic academic conferences, registered four international and domestic patents, and received three awards for outstanding research at prestigious academic conferences.


Expressing gratitude, Dr. Seo Seung-hwan stated, "Thanks to the support of the BK21 project, I was able to conduct high-quality research in a favorable environment." He added, "I aspire to grow into a researcher with expertise and passion to contribute to the development of next-generation semiconductor-related technologies." On the other hand, the Sustainable ICT Future Talent Education and Research Group aims to lead continuous engineering growth, engineering education innovation, and human society happiness. They pursue a vision of fostering 'sustainable ICT future talents' through four detailed goals: ▲ 'Internationally, professionally, ambitiously, and ethically educating ICT talents pursuing societal shared values' ▲ 'Creating future core values through innovative and challenging research' ▲ 'Internationalization through fostering global ICT talents and securing international research leadership' ▲ 'Social contribution through the creation of shared values in advanced ICT technology.' They are committed to striving for the cultivation of outstanding master's and doctoral level talents."
