Sungkyunkwan University, 8 Researchers Selected as Top 1% Worldwide (HCR) in 2023

-Ranked 3rd among domestic research institutions, 1st among private universities



According to the results announced by Clarivate in the selection of the top 1% researchers (HCR) in the world for 2023, eight faculty members from our university were selected as HCR, ranking 3rd among domestic research institutions and 1st among private universities. HCR (Highly Cited Researcher) refers to researchers in the top 1% based on the number of citations of Highly Cited Papers (HCP) in their respective fields.


This year, a total of 6,849 researchers from 67 countries and regions were selected as HCR, with 65 researchers selected in 11 fields in Korea. Among domestic universities, Seoul National University had 10 researchers, UNIST had 9, Sungkyunkwan University had 8, Hanyang University had 5, and Korea University had 4.


The researchers from our university selected as HCR in 2023 are △ Professor Nam-Gyu Park (HCR Distinguished Chair Professor, Director of the SKKU Institute of Energy Science and Technology, Materials Science, 7 consecutive years) △ Professor Young-Hee Lee (HCR Distinguished Chair Professor, Director of IBS Nanostructure Physics Research Group, Cross-Field, 6 consecutive years) △ Professor Myung-Ju Ahn (Clinical Medicine, 5 consecutive years) △ Professor Geun-Chil Park(Clinical Medicine, 4 consecutive years) △ Professor Jin-Wook Lee (Cross-Field, 3 consecutive years) △ Professor Muhammad Khan (Cross-Field, 3 consecutive years) △ Professor Ho-Young Im (Cross-Field, 2 consecutive years) △ Professor Jae-Chan Lee (Cross-Field, 2 consecutive years).


Professor Nam-Gyu Park, selected as HCR for 7 consecutive years, is a leading expert in the field of solar cells, having developed the world's first stable perovskite solar cell in 2012 and led its commercialization.


Professor Young-Hee Lee, selected as HCR for 6 consecutive years, is a global authority in the field of nano-materials as the director of the IBS Nanostructure Physics Research Group and the first Korean to be selected as a foreign academician by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.


In the field of clinical medicine, Professor Geun-Chil Park, Professor Myung-Ju Ahn, and Professor Ho-Young Im have once again been listed on the HCR roster this year, following their inclusion last year.

In addition, emerging researchers such as Professor Jin-Wook Lee from SKKU Advanced Institute of Nano Technology, Professor Muhammad Khan from the Global Convergence Department, and Professor Jae-Chan Lee from the Department of Civil, Architectural Engineering and Landscape Architecture have been selected in the Cross-Field category.


President Ji-Beom Yoo said, 'It is a great honor for our university to be recognized as a research-centered university that conducts influential research worldwide.' He also stated, 'We will continue to pursue bold research that leads humanity and future society.'"
