Professor Sooyeon Cho of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science was selected as one of the 'Young Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific' by MIT Technology Review

Professor Sooyeon Cho of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Polymer Science was selected as one of the 'Young Innovators Under 35 Asia Pacific' by MIT Technology Review.

MIT Technology Review, a technology media outlet with the longest history in the world, commemorates its 100th anniversary with the philosophy that "technology benefits humanity." As part of this celebration, it annually selects the top 35 young innovators under the age of 35 in various advanced science technology, and industrial fields. Since 2014, TR35 Asia Pacific has been established to recognize young scientists in the Asia Pacific region.

Professor Sooyeon Cho has been recognized for his contribution to developing advanced sensor systems that can replace traditional analytical chemical techniques. In particular, his recent work on the analysis of individual cells using nano-photonics in the infrared sensor and real-time process analysis systems using mobile nano-sensor form factors has demonstrated the potential for application not only in academia but also in the fields of medicine and industry.

Professor Cho expressed his joy at being recognized for his philosophy of advancing chemical engineering and precision medical systems through precise biochemical data extraction in both research and industrial settings. He stated, "As a sensor engineer majoring in chemical engineering, I am very pleased to be acknowledged by MIT Technology Review, a symbol of innovation. I will continue to dedicate myself to research in order to realize my dreams."

It is worth noting that recipients of the TR35 award from MIT Technology Review have gained global recognition. Past awardees include prominent figures such as Larry Page and Sergey Brin, founders of Google; Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Meta; Max Levchin, co-founder of PayPal; Jonathan Ive, former Chief Design Officer at Apple; and Wu Enda, former Chief Scientist at Baidu. This is the first time a researcher from a domestic institution has received the award since the establishment of the Asia Pacific division in 2014.
