Korea and Germany put their heads together in order to develop cutting-edge products on the basis of textile. And as the first step the establishment of a large-scale textile specialization research center was decided where both countries put around 67 billion won in total. Korea Institute of Industrial Technology(KITECH) announced  on OCT. 13, that Sungkyunkwan (SKKU) and German Fraunhofer Institute and Institute for Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen Univ. (ITA) signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) on Collaboration between Korea-Germany research Institutes.’

According to this agreement, these institutes get a fund from Gyeonggi Province, Land Nordrhein-Westfalen(Germany), and so on to establish a collaboration center in Suwon and Aachen(Germany) each starting from next year. Until 2020, Korea and Germany are supposed to put in 29 billion won and 29 million euro respectively.

The number of workers in this center is expected to reach 200 in total with 35 researchers serving alternative military services. Here, the collaboration is to  develop products related to Smart Textronics technique based on textile materials. Smart Textronics means textile products integrated with electronic devices.
