Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, on 25th, announced that Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) was finally selected as the new proposal for the ‘Grand ICT Research Center’(Director: Professor Choo, Hyun seung) that will proceed with the large-scale industry & university collaboration research and the cultivation of creative highly skilled specialists.

As the newly initiated project of this year, the Grand ICT Research Center will be a research center situated in an area amidst high concentration of ICT companies that will carry out large-scaled industry-academic cooperation research, future ICT advanced technology research and the cultivation of creative & fusion type specialists.

The Grand ICT Research Center will run on 1~3 billion won a year (government +private)in subsidies, for up to 8 years(4+2+2) making the total at 19 billion won(private funds included).   

In the SKKU Grand ICT Research Center 6 universities, including SKKU (host) and Kyunghee University (partner), and 23 companies will be participating , and research will be conducted in ICT convergence technology capable to develop relationship with users through providing customized and emotional services such as IoT(Internet of Things), machine(5 senses recognition system/drone/robot etc), and so on.
 
In addition, consulting services will be provided to small and medium-sized ICT companies, and from 2016 SKKU and Kyunhee Univ. will opening a contract department (Master degree of Engineering), ‘Pangyo Graduate School of ICT Convergence’ program aimed at employees in small and medium-sized companies. 

With the signing of the agreement (late SEP.) the Grand ICT Research Center will first open an office at SKKU (late OCT.) and soon after that will be moving into the Creative Economy Valley Center (tentative name) that is under construction in Pangyo, Gyeonggi province.
