Interview by CCTV ‘Huanqiu Crossover’ on KBS’s ‘Super China’ program.
With a lot of attention circulating in China over KBS’s ‘Super China’ program aired early this year, China’s national broadcasting network, CCTV’s main current affairs program ‘Huanqiu Crossover’ broadcasted a special program on ‘Super China’. On June 20’s televised ‘Super China- Revelations’ Sungkyunkwan University(SKKU)’s Prof. Lee Hee-ok (Head of Sungkyun China Reserach Center and Dean of Graduate of China) spoke as a specialist on Chinese affairs.
“In Korea, opinions of China as a threat and as an opportunity co-exist. In Korea’s point of view situated next to the world’s biggest market, China, is a tremendous opportunity, and has greatly aided in Korea’s economic recovery” commented Prof. Lee. He also said “Peace and stability in east asia, especially peace and stability in the Korean peninsula has to be sought out with China” and “while at the same time the traditional alliance with the U.S. is maintained, the U.S.‘s involvement in east asia should be one that assists in the security of the region”. Prof. Lee also gave a solution, “ Notion of economical centered relations with China and a security centered relationship with the U.S. is not right. To be more exact, the consideration should be made on building a future oriented east asia.”
