The partnership between China's Jilin University and Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) received a boost earlier this week, as Jilin became the first university to send its president for an official visit with newly inaugurated SKKU President Chung Kyu-sang. Jilin University President Li Yuanyuan visited SKKU President Chung on Monday, Jan. 12 for talks on amicable cooperation between both universities.
President Li toured the 600-year-old Sungkyunkwan campus and visited the Sungkyun China Institute. He expressed the wishes of both universities to take on the role of bridgehead for both nations through active cooperation between SKKU and Jilin University.
Jilin University is one of SKKU's many active Chinese partner universities. It is also a partner in the Campus Asia Program, an international student exchange program. Beyond this, there is a dual degree program established between the respective universities’ engineering colleges where seven Master's degree students have earned their degrees from both Jilin and SKKU. Also, Jilin and SKKU are co-founders of the Sungkyun China Institute and the Korea-China Public Diplomacy Research Center.
