As 2014 rolls to a close, many international students and professors prepare to go back to their home countries, go on vacation, or stick around for another year at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU).

On Friday, Dec. 5, the Office of International Affairs held a luncheon for international faculty. The luncheon was attended by 40 professors from both SKKU's Seoul and Suwon campuses, representing 17 countries from around the world.

"SKKU’s international faculty members play one of the most important roles in the globalization of the university," said Vice President of International Affairs Lee Suke-kyu in a congratulatory speech at the faculty luncheon. The vice president expressed his gratitude for all SKKU's international professors and pledged to maintain close communication.

"The international faculty makes a unique contribution to SKKU by acting as a bridge between their respective countries and SKKU as a Korean university," said Professor Jezreel Kang-Graham of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism. "SKKU offers many opportunities for faculty, students, and others to have a significant professional impact on the present and future of domestic and international communities. Korea is a country of the future and SKKU is the right place to be to play a part in helping to shape that future."

International instructors make up 8.5 percent of SKKU's total faculty.
