Conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degree to Dr. Nikolay M. Kropachev, the Rector of Saint Petersburg State University 2018.11.08

Sungkyunkwan University will confer the honorary doctorate in law to Dr. Nikolay M. Kropachev, the rector of Saint Petersburg State University, on November 9th (Friday) at 10:30AM.


Dr. Kropachev has shown outstanding leadership while taking position as the rector of Saint Petersburg State University since 2009. Also, he has served as President of the Association of Russian Leading Universities, Chairman of the Northwestern Federal University President's Committee, and Member of the Presidential Committee to support new Russian scientists and leading universities and has contributed to the development of higher education.


He is regarded as the first class full state counselor in the region of St. Petersburg by his steady contributions as a legal person in the community. In 1998, he opened the legal clinic for the first socially underprivileged in Russia and provided free legal advice. After then, he served as a chairman of the St. Petersburg Bar Association and a member of the Constitutional Court of Saint Petersburg.


Since 2010, he has been working as a coordinator of the Russian side of the Korea-Russia Dialogue and leading the promotion of exchange and cooperation between Korea and Russia. He also contributed to the development of Korean Studies in the West, including setting up a bronze statue of Park Kyung Ri at the University of Saint Petersburg and opening a lecture on "land".


“Through strong exchange activities and joint researches, the two universities are expected to continue to develop together as a truly global leading university that will further enhance the value of universities in the era of civilization and historical transitions triggered by the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” said by SKKU official.
