Researchers in Sungkyunkwan University(SKKU) developed the world’s most efficient thermoelectric material. Thermoelectric material is a new kind of material that generates electricity through heat by utilizing the difference in temperature on opposite sides of a material. The application of thermoelectric materials are endless.

 

Prof. Kim Sung-woong who is heading the research team in SKKU, and is responsible for the development of this new thermoelectric material, says that it shows two times the efficiency of current thermoelectric materials,


“Developing a new thermoelectric material is significant in that we made a breakthrough in this field of research which have not seen any new development for some time” said Prof. Kim. “Through this new development it is easy to say that we lead the world in the field, with having the advantage in the possibility of mass production.”

 

The research findings were published in the academic journal ‘Science’ on April 3. This research is a collaboration of SKKU and Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology.
