The first joint academic forum between Sungkyunkwan University and Peking University

The first Korea-China Academic Forum which was co-sponsored by Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU, President Kim Jun-Young) and Peking University (PKU, President Wang Enge) was successfully held from Sep. 24~26 at PKU in China.

This forum drew attention to the substantive academic exchange between prestigious universities in Korea and China after President Xi Jinping's visit to Korea. SKKU attendees included President Kim Jun-Young, six members of a Dean group, and 16 professors. The forum was honored by the presence of PKU representatives including President Wang Enge, Professor Wi Tie Juin, Professor Gui Yongtao, and Professor Ryu Jung Fan.

The event started off on Sep. 24 with an opening ceremony, followed by a humanities and social science forum and a natural science (nanotechnology) forum. After the opening event, there was an enthusiastic discussion between scholars from the two universities on the topics "Public order in Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula" and "Cultural exchange between Korea and China." On Sep. 25 and 26, two scholars representing each university delivered a presentation and debate on multifunctional nanomaterials.

As well, there were discussions in each academic standard. Dean groups of the two universities gathered and discussed joint research, exchanges between students and faculty, and opening an academic contest. Discussion was mainly progressed by six colleges: the College of Economics, the College of Engineering, the Graduate School of Governance, the College of Humanities, Law School, and the College of Information.

SKKU and PKU promised that they will expand the scope of bilateral cooperation in the future. “We formed the basis for our two universities to have practical cooperation beyond normal academic exchange through this forum,” President Kim said. “We have a policy that we will perform exchange in earnest by organizing a forum every year in turn or through alternative ways.”
