"Conducting an essay contest on the four qualities (benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom)... to give students the opportunity to think hard about life."

Professor Yoo Hong-jun (University College) says in a interview that "character-building education is becoming more and more important."

He explained that due to dual-income families, learning at home is paralyzed while middle and high schools put more emphasis on preparing for the college entrance exam, and there is no education on character-building at all, making college a very important stage for such education.
When the first essay contest was held last fall and this spring on the subject of benevolence, respectively 517 and 1,066 entries were made, for a prize of only 200,000 won. From this, Professor Yoo asserts that "It shows how much students are interested in this." This fall to next year, contests on the themes of righteousness, propriety, and wisdom will be held and a book will be made with the winning essays.
