Although SKKU’s various academic disciplines are divided between two campuses: the Natural Sciences Campus and the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, together they create a synergistic effect across all the university’s education, research and specialized programs.
The Sungkyun Sports Festival was first held last year at the Natural Sciences Campus in order for students of both campuses to better communicate with one another and to have unforgettable memories during their university years.
This year’s festival, held on May 10 at Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, was well attended with 2,059 participants successfully completing the entire program.
On the sports field of the campus, full of booths set up by each college, Natural Sciences Campus students in pink uniforms and Humanities and Social Sciences Campus students in green ones were mingled together, making the field appear as though it were covered with leaves and flowers.
The opening ceremony involved students sending up balloons and a gymnastics performance by the students of the SKKU Department of Dance.
The main events included Ssireum, the 100-meter sprint, basketball, soccer and the 600-meter relay. Besides the sports matches, the School of Art students performed and the latter part of the festival was heated up by the popular Korean music group ‘Secret’ with their song ‘Starlight Moonlight’.
The total result was decided by adding up all the scores of the various events, including the school song contest. Finally the Natural Sciences Campus claimed the trophy with a total score of 750 to 250, keeping it for the second consecutive year.
The SKKU President Prof. Jun Young Kim said: “We will create diverse campus cultures embracing both campuses which can make students of each campus be proud of SKKU as one university. As part of it, we will develop ‘In-Ja Jeon’ as a distinctive brand representing a culture of Korean Universities.”
