International Summer Semester (ISS) announced its beginning in 2011. ISS is the criterion of the internationalization of universities. That is why many Korean universities greatly concern and focus on running ISS and attracting students from foreign prestigious universities. SKKU has been hosting the ISS for four years since 2008. SKKU said, “We had 302 students registered for the first ISS. But this year we have 984 students registered including 474 foreign students from 63 universities in 30 countries, and the participation rate is the highest since we started the program.”
The reason why the SKKU ISS has growing reputation among foreign students is that of its 20 excellent and distinctive courses in 5 tracks under the unique theme that fits to globalization trend.
This year ISS invites 14 great scholars including Charles Hampden-Turner (University of Cambridge, master of East and West comparative business management), John Lie (University of California Berkeley, construct Diaspora theory), Edward Romar (University of Massachusetts, Graft business values onto Asian studies), and Raymond Abelin (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore) and they are expected to deliver high quality lectures.
Participating students are also highly educated and in good quality. 474 students from 63 world prestigious universities gathered at the SKKU ISS. Students are from well-known universities such as Indiana University, Purdue University, State University of New York, Pennsylvania State University, University of London, Leiden University, Tilburg University, Utrecht University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and Nanyang Technological University.
Other universities focus more on Korean language and culture in their programs. On the other hand, the SKKU ISS aims higher toward the goal of educating students as next international leaders in the global era by setting distinctive and unique theme throughout the entire program. The theme for this year is “Challenges for the Next Decade.”
The SKKU ISS is a four week program from June 27th (Monday) to July 22nd (Friday).
