Confucianism Humanity Education Center, Successful Completion of the 2023 Winter Break English and Character Camp

The Confucianism Humanity Education Center (Director Professor Lee Cheon-seung) held a 2-week winter break English and character camp for elementary and middle school students from January 8th (Monday) to the 19th (Friday) at the Hoam Building on the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus.

The '2023 WinterBreak English and Character Camp' is a program designed to realize the ideal of a creative global leader based on our university's excellent educational infrastructure. The participants were a total of 41 students selected from 13 elementary schools and 9 middle schools in the Jongno District. The camp included immersive English language experiences with native speakers and character development education.

The camp divided participants into four groups, covering the four language skills of speaking, listening, writing, and reading. Following the theme 'Around the World,' similar to the previous summer camp, participants learned and explored the history, culture, environment and science, land and form, food, news, and unique characteristics of various countries. The camp concluded with discussions on social experiments and culture, as well as presentations of projects from each class.

Every day, students experienced 10-character programs, including classics and character, four-character etiquette, life calligraphy, making a moral diary, mind traffic light, character rituals, ink wash painting, family picture letters, guided learning, and partner exercises. Through these programs, students learned and cultivated values rooted in both tangible and intangible aspects of traditional culture, enhancing virtues such as responsibility, consideration, filial piety, communication, honesty, and patience, thereby strengthening the inclusive capabilities of global leaders.

A participating student shared, "Thanks to the fun native English teacher, I lost my fear of English, and the experience of conversing with the teacher in 100% English was great." They also mentioned, "The diverse topics and various teaching methods were enjoyable."
