Korean Disability Arts & Culture Center- Sungkyunkwan University, 'I-eum Creative Academy Creators Program' Achievement Sharing Ceremony Completed

The Performing and Design Science Research Institute at the College of Art and Design (Director Professor Ji-sook Jung) was awarded a contract (total of 200 million won) for the 'I-eum Creative Academy Creators Program' by the Korean Disability Arts & Culture Center, commencing the program in October 2023.

The institute stated, "Based on the fundamental concepts of humanity and righteousness (仁義禮智) taught at Sungkyunkwan University, we planned this project to practice love (仁) and courtesy (禮) for people with disabilities and disability artists. Through arts education for individuals with disabilities, we aimed to contribute to the creation of a new culture by guiding them towards the essence of the original human heart, behavior, movements, and wisdom."

Departments including Fine Arts, Film Studies, Dance, Acting, and Design within the College of Arts participated, planning and operating a total of 6 programs, including "Fine Arts (3 programs), Film, Dance, and Theater." Full-time and adjunct professors from the College of Arts participated in the programs, providing systematic professional arts education to enhance the capabilities of disabled artists.

Notably, current university students participated as mentors or collaborative creators, experiencing the expansion of interaction between disabled and non-disabled arts, actively practicing mutual learning, and fostering networking.

Meanwhile, the institute arranged for an exhibition of the program outcomes involving 26 disabled artists from January 5th (Friday) to January 13th (Saturday) at Sungkyun Gallery on the Humanities and Social Sciences campus. The theater program's achievement-sharing event will take place separately on January 9th (Tuesday) at the EmpathyM Art Center.

The Sungkyun Gallery will feature educational sketch videos, art exhibitions, and performances. The video program will showcase YouTube individual media content planning works and screenings. Plans also include screening creative performance videos for dance and theater programs.

Furthermore, during the achievement-sharing event, certificates of completion from the 'I-eum Creative Academy Creators Program’ will be awarded to participating disabled artists on behalf of the president of the university."
