Medical Student Jung-yong Shin Awarded the 2023 Talent Medal of Korea

On December 27th, at the Sejong Convention Center, Medical student Jung-yong Shin was awarded the Talent Award at the '2023 Talent Medal of Korea.' He was recognized for his contributions to the development of a treatment for degenerative brain diseases, for which there is currently no precise cure.

The Talent Medal of Korea is a system that selects and rewards high school and young talents who have contributed to social development by discovering outstanding young talents who will lead future society and contribute to the country's development. This year, a total of 100 individuals, including 50 high school students and 50 university/young talents, were selected.

Jung-yong Shin presented research in 2022 on the drug efficacy that mitigates the aggregation and toxicity of the major protein associated with Parkinson's disease in the international academic journal 'Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy' (JCR top 9.0%). He has received high praise for seven patents related to his research on the treatment of degenerative brain diseases, filed domestically and internationally.

Expressing his pride as a talent of South Korea, Jung-yong Shin stated, "I will strive to be a person who develops further with pride as a talented individual of the Republic of Korea." He added, "I will grow into someone who contributes to humanity and future society by developing various treatments, especially for degenerative brain diseases."
