Selection of Graduate School of Semiconductor Convergence with 150 billion won support for 5 years

-Congratulations on the selection of the Graduate School of Semiconductor Convergence Engineering as a specialized graduate school for semiconductors by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy

-Establishment of a new department in the field of next-generation semiconductors for the second semester of the 2023 academic year

The Graduate School of Semiconductor Convergence Engineering, along with KAIST and UNIST, has been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's sponsored program for specialized graduate schools in semiconductors. As a result, our university will receive a total of 15 billion won in funding for a period of 5 years, from 2023 to 2028.

The Graduate School of Semiconductor Convergence Engineering, as a newly established department in the field of next-generation semiconductors, planned for the second semester of 2023, will have the largest admission capacity in the country, with an annual intake of 52 master's students and 26 doctoral students. It will also have an educational infrastructure dedicated to semiconductor characterization.

Building upon the expertise gained from operating the first semiconductor systems engineering department in Korea in 2006 and providing education programs for semiconductor professionals, the Graduate School of Semiconductor Convergence Engineering aims to cultivate experts in all areas of semiconductors, including design, components, processes, equipment, and materials. The department operates three educational tracks: △ software and architecture, △circuits and devices, and △materials, components, equipment, and packaging. It involves top experts in the country as faculty members.

With the selection for the sponsored program for specialized graduate schools in semiconductors, Sungkyunkwan University plans to expand its semiconductor education and research infrastructure, establish itself as a hub for semiconductor research in South Korea by securing additional top-notch semiconductor experts as faculty members, and become an institution that produces semiconductor experts needed in the industrial field.

Professor Byoung Deong Choi, the director of the sponsored program for specialized graduate schools in semiconductors, stated, "Sungkyunkwan University will serve as the leading institution for semiconductor education and research in South Korea, taking responsibility and a sense of mission to nurture advanced semiconductor experts who will lead the future of our country."
