Department of Fashion Design Held its 50^th Anniversary Ceremony

The Department of Fashion Design held a ceremony to celebrate the 50^th anniversary of the department’s founding on Sep. 23 (Fri) at Suseongwan, HSSC, in the presence of President Dong Ryeol Shin, Ji Sook Chung (Dean of the School of Art), Prof. Sun Jin Hwang (Department of Fashion Design), alumni, and current students.

At the commemorative event, the Department of Fashion Design alumni association delivered a development fund with love and gratitude. In addition, a meaningful event was prepared to award the Sungkyun Artist Award to alumni of designer Young Mi Woo (Class of 1983), who was selected as the first Korean to become a full member of the French Fashion Association and who is currently active as a world-class designer.

Jae-hee Hong (CEO of Jk Design Lab.), the 9^th alumni president of the Department of Fashion Design, said, “With this ceremony, it was a meaningful time for alumni to share their memories with each other. In the rapidly changing environment of the fashion industry, alumni of the Department of Fashion Design will lead the fashion culture, prepare for a new era in all walks of life, and take the lead in creating a desirable culture. We will do our best to make this 50^th anniversary event a turning point to create a new culture and show further development.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Fashion Design, which was established in 1971, had its 50^th anniversary in 2021, but the celebration event was held this year due to COVID-19.
