Professor Won-Tae Lee, who participated in BK21 Center for fostering renewable energy integrated system researcher (Director: Won-Seop Yoon) with participating graduate students, received the Deputy Prime Minister’s Award as the ‘2021 Excellent Participant of the BK21 Project Phase 4’.

This award was granted to discover talented people who have created outstanding results among graduate students and new research personnel participating in the 4th phase of the BK21 project and to support growth. 25 graduate students and 4 new research personnel received the award. Seven people were selected from all over the country in the new project field, and only one person from the energy new business/renewable energy field was selected.

Dr. Won-Tae Lee participated in the BK21 project from September 2013 to February 2021. He was recognized not only in academia but also in the industrial field for his ability as a researcher and achieved various public achievements such as 17 SCI-level papers, 1 academic book, 1 technology transfer, and 3 consecutive awards of Samsung Electronics’ human-tech papers, and Sejong Science Fellowship. His research results contributed to the development of next-generation high-energy storage materials in domestic and international academic and secondary battery industries.

Dr. Lee said, “BK21 is defined as a project to foster world-class graduate schools and excellent local universities, but in other words, I think it is the most Beautiful Kindergarten of the 21st Century for Researchers. Of course, the participating professors in the project at that time must have had a headache day and night, but in the process of the project, they provided infrastructure for free research to participating researchers and created an environment to challenge again even if they failed. Additionally, when I just graduated from college and went to graduate school, if I didn’t have a stepping stone (research fund, support for international conference participation) the BK21 provided, it must have been difficult for me to take a step as an independent researcher.”

The Center for fostering renewable energy integrated system researcher was selected in the energy new business/renewable energy sector among the new business of the BK21 project in September 2020 and plans to lead the paradigm shift in the renewable energy sector by 2027 by proactively solving the problem.
