Introduction of Outstanding Convergence Technology Performance in 2020 Korea Science and Technology Exhibition

At the 2020 Korea Science and Technology Exhibition (hosted/organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT/National Research Foundation of Korea, Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity), the research work of Professor Jundong Cho (Dean, Department of Human ICT Convergence, College of Information and Communication Engineering), “A study on the development of non-visual information transmission interface for exhibition arts for the blind and one’s perspective for the expansion of cultural rights” was introduced as an excellent result of convergence technology. Related video was broadcast live on Science all (http://www.scienceall.com), Naver TV, and YouTube Channel ‘Science Friends’ for 7 days from December 21 (Mon) ~ 27 (Sun).

Professor Jundong Cho said “My project is to develop tools to help blind people appreciate paintings. To accomplish my project, not only the humanities and social sciences fields, but also the design technologies that are needed to deliver technolgies to the blind people, and the IT technologies that enable them to communicate effectively and use them conveniently, must be well combined. We are trying to solve the challenges by cooperating with experts.”

Commentator said “This technology converts artworks into 2.5D touch, allowing blind people to appreciate them through touch and hearing and allowing them to imagine the shape of the artworks through finger touch interface. It also improves the cultural welfare of the blind by helping them to appreciate artworks that have realistic audio commentary and sound effects.”
