Successfully Completed a Summer ‘Team Building’ Event for Freshmen 2020

Due to the COVID-19, most of the school’s official events, including entrance ceremonies and orientation, were canceled and classes were fully conducted online in the first semester of this year. Thus, freshmen had no chance to visit the campus.

In response, University College (Dean. Hong-Joon Yoo) held a five-day summer ‘Team Building’ event on both campuses for freshmen of 2020 with the Freshman Guide (FG) from July 20 (Mon) ~ 24 (Fri).

A total of 880 freshmen from 93 convergence LCs from both campuses participated in the event, and they conducted interaction through Webex, recreation with FG seniors, and campus tours. Freshmen who participated in the event were presented with a brochure, a new campus life guideline, an alumni bulletin, and a school ballpoint pen and masks with a school symbol as souvenirs.

Jung-Hoon Oh, the freshman from Arts and Science, said "I was happy to see the school buildings and colleagues in person. If everything gets back to normal and semester starts as usual, I would like to study all night in the library and order delivery food at night during the examination period.”

Seung-Hui Woo, the freshman from Natural Sciences, said “The facilities on campus including Samsung Library were nicer than I expected. Also, I could have better interaction with colleagues by meeting them in person. This event was such a great opportunity for the freshmen of 2020.”

Ha-Na-Lim Ma (Department of English Language and Literature), the president of FG Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, held this event. She said “Through this offline event, freshmen could obtain detailed information on admission, graduation requirement, academics, and etc. They also had a great chance to get to know colleagues and seniors through various recreation activities. I am thankful for freshmen who actively participated in this event despite the wet weather.”

The event was held in compliance with the COVID-19 prevention guidelines, including wearing masks, installing hand sanitizers, and accepting limited number of students in the classroom.

The University College is planning on conducting active interaction and communication by pairing FG student with freshman for any support for the upcoming second semester.
