Three Books Published by the SKKU Press, Selected as Excellent Books

by the National Academy of Sciences in 2020

The three books published by the Sungkyunkwan University Press were selected as excellent books by the National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea in 2020.

On July 13, the Ministry of Education and the National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea announced the 2020 Excellent Books. Among the lists, three selected books were published by the SKKU Press. Three books are:  『Curious D&A Story: Find DNA Evidence!』(Si-Geun Lim, 368 pages, 20,000 KRW), 『Jeremy Bentham and the Present: Freedom, Justice, and Happiness Dreamed by Utilitarian Designer』(Jun-Ho Kang, 416 pages, 27,000 KRW), 『Juyeok(周易): Dan(彖)·Sang(象)·(Mooneonjeon(文言傳)』(Sang-Seop Kim, 928 pages, 45,000 KRW).

The book, 『Curious D&A Story: Find DNA Evidence!』 by Professor Si-Geun Lim of SKKU’s department of Forensics, is mainly for law scientists who execute identification, students who learn and research legal science, and people in related fields, but it is easy to understand for general public.

The book, 『Jeremy Bentham and the Present: Freedom, Justice, and Happiness Dreamed by Utilitarian Designer』by Professor Jun-Ho Kang of Kyung Hee University’s Humanitas College, is the utilitarianism and Bentham theory analyzed by Prof. Kang, who has been inspecting and diagnosing various ethical topics of modern utilitarianism.

Professor Sang-Seop Kim teaches at the Graduate School of Confucian Studies. In the book, 『Juyeok(周易): Dan(彖)·Sang(象)·(Muneonjeon(文言傳)』, he focuses on ‘analysis’ by defining the meaning of Dan, Sang, and Muneon one by one. It is very significant that he tried to establish a framework for the author’s own studies by analyzing characters, concepts, phrases, and sentences.

The National Academy of Sciences, Republic of Korea selects excellent academic books every year for the purpose of promoting research and writing in basic academic fields.
