School of Confucian Studies held a creative coding camp with 30 students in the East Asian studies program for 4 days. This camp was mainly organized by the School of Confucian Studies and sponsored by College of Information and Communication Engineering, LINC+ IoT UNIC, Student Success Center and DS Lab Co.

Prof. Ilbum CHOI from the School of Confucian Studies said, “In the era of fourth industrial revolution where the transcendental knowledge of East Asian philosophy and the experience knowledge of the physica create a new civilization, education on coding is essential.”

Prof. Yongsuk KIM (College of Information and Communication Engineering) gave a lecture on “let’s play with machine by learning creative coding”. Prof KIM said, “Coding is just one of the means. We must set our goal to develop an algorithm.”

The final goal of the coding education is on establishing a simple smart home environment. They used the entry platform to help first learners approach coding more easily. Students got to try and control block coding, LED with analogue sensor, infrared rays, temperature, intensity of illumination, and the buzzer for the first 3 days. On the last day, students created a smart home system using the codes they learned throughout the program.

One of the participant said, “It was a very special experience to create a smart home. It was nice to try out coding which is unfamiliar in the Confucian studies program. I hope to see more of these convergent programs held in the future.”
