SKKU Department of Fine Art Invited to the Festival Internacional Cervantino 2022

- Selected as Honor Guest Country for the 50th Anniversary Event

The Department of Fine Art of the College of Art is invited to participate in the Festival Internacional Cervantino 2022 held in Mexico from October 12 to 30.

The Festival Internacional Cervantino is a festival that combines various arts such as theater, opera, music, dance, street art, visual art, and film. It is held every October in the Mexican medieval city of Guanajuato. It originated in 1953 from the performance of Miguel de Cervantes, the author of <Don Quixote>, at Guanajuato city plaza.

Since the first festival was held in 1972, the scale has grown every year, and now it has grown into an international comprehensive arts festival comparable to the Edinburgh Festivals in the U.K. and Avignon Festivals in France. Since 2000, the Honor Guest Country has been selected to invite artists from the country, and Korea has been invited as the host country of the 50th Cervantino Festival this year.

The Department of Art was selected as the El Cartel del Festival Internacional Cervantino 50 Aniversario at the invitation of the Korean Cultural Center in Mexico, and 15 graduate students and undergraduates, including Prof. Sang Bong Lee, Prof. Hwan Cho, Prof. Yeondoo Chung, and Prof. Hak Shin will participate as invited artists. They will present a variety of visual artworks at the festival.

Prof. Sang Bong Lee said, “We are looking forward to promoting Korean art by exchanging studies and culture in Mexico, and forming a new artistic community. Through this cultural exchange event, it will be a good opportunity to expand the scope of Korean art.”
