Recruiting Full-Time Faculty Members Simultaneously ON/OFF-LINE...

College of Economics, held Candidate Seminars, Assessments,

Meetings, and Anonymous Voting in Response to COVID-19

The departments of economic field (Economics, Global Economics, Quant Applied Economics) of the College of Economics, SKKU conducted the seminar for recruiting full-time faculty members simultaneously on a non-face-to-face and face-to face basis (ON/OFF-LINE) on July 10 (Fri). In order to overcome the various restrictions caused by COVID-19, the presenters as well as the evaluators (professors), attended face-to-face and non-face-to-face. Thus, foreign professors and professors on business trips abroad were also able to attend the evaluation.

Additionally, selecting the candidates of final interview through the departmental discussion was also conducted as ON/OFF-LINE on July 20 (Mon). After in-depth discussion of the candidates' research capability and other qualities, the mobile anonymous voting method was introduced for the first time to finalize the recommendation of new faculty members at the academic level.

The series of processes in the last ten days in the departments of economic field has been an innovative and challenging attempt. As a major step forward in the decision-making mechanism of the school for the most important issues, it was an active and preemptive action against the prolonged COVID-19 situation.

This recruitment method, which was conducted through the simultaneous platform of  ON/OFF-LINE, maintained a high face-to-face attendance rate based on the prevention system, while maintaining an open stance on non-face-to-face attendance to enhance participation in major decisions and further ensuring and efficiency of the procedures.

Through this method, it was confirmed that the three parties – presenter, face-to-face attendees and non-face-to-face attendees – were able to have question and answer session smoothly. Therefore, it was repeatedly verified that if there is ‘untact’ situation such as COVID-19 in the future, it can be routinized as an effective communication platform not only for lectures but also for various research activities and other administrative fields.
