Presidents of Korean universities from engineering backgrounds have gathered at the Korea Science and Technology Annual Meeting held on July 4th. The presidents argued that the current education system does not have the foundation to support the convergence education in the era of fourth industrial revolution.
The theme of the meeting was “Korea’s future in next 10 years”. 7 presidents from SKKU, GIST, Hanyang University, Ajou University, SNU, PNU and Korea University joined the meeting for discussion.
President Dong Ryeol SHIN asserted, “The university education is still centered on the professor. We cannot expect the students to learn creativity and convergent problem solving skills out of this environment.” President SHIN claimed that, “Other global universities introduced AI and data analysis in most of their curriculum. The paradigm of education should shift from teaching to learning and it should be student-centered. The barriers between disciplines should also be reduced.”
