<Sungkyun Nobel Prize Candidate Sponsorship Award Ceremony, 2019.4.11 (Thurs)>
Sungkyun Nobel Prize Candidate Sponsorship Award Cerermony was held on April 11th at the President’s Office to encourage scholars with the possibility of being nominated for the Nobel Prize. Three professors have been selected for the award: Prof. Namkyu PARK (School of Chemical Engineering), Prof. Younghee LEE (Dept. of Physics) and Prof. Doojin RYU (Dept. of Economics). Prof. Namkyu PARK and Younghee LEE will receive KRW 50,000,000 and Prof. Doojin RYU will receive KRW 30,000,000 as a reward.
Notable figures who joined the ceremony were Junyoung KIM (Chairman of the Board), President Dong Ryeol SHIN, Yongtaek YUN (President of Alumni Association), Hongwon JUNG (ex-Prime Minister), President Choongu LEE (Unix Corp.), Executive Director Taehyup LEE, Vice-President Hongjoon YOO, Vice-President Sungjin SONG, etc.
Sungkyun Nobel Prize Fund was established by the lead of Alumni President Yongtaek YUN with the hope of producing first Korean Nobel Prize Laureate. Fundraising began in June 2018 and it has accumulated more than KRW 1,000,000,000 thanks to the support of many alumni.
Awardees expressed, “We are very thankful for the unexpected award. We all feel a sense of duty to meet our supporters’ expectation. We will contribute to the school by producing a good result in research.”
