Seoul Education Office approved SKKU as an institute for the gifted. Currently, 14 institutions have been approved by the Seoul Education Office but there are only 2 institutions designed to train gifted students in the area of humanities and social sciences.

According to the research team in Oxford University, jobs that has foundation in creativity and emotion will become more advantageous in the era of 4th industrial revolution. On this basis, SKKU College of Humanities is researching for a method to train an ideal “post-human” for the era of 4th industrial revolution.

SKKU’s Institute for the gifted was established with the objective of training gifted students in the area of humanities and social sciences. It provides programs to improve creativity and education necessary for the preparation of the 4th industrial revolution such as STEAM, maker and coding. It will also initiate multicultural programs to develop openness and social sensitivity.

Institute for gifted will design its programs by organizing gifted program professionals with graduate/PhD degrees. It will also invite professionals for STEAM, maker, coding and multicultural education.

SKKU Institute for the gifted runs for students enrolled in schools under the Seoul Education office. The institution will also open classes for students from multicultural background by considering the fact that an environment with cultural diversity and openness leads to the development of creative talents such as Steve Jobs and many other innovative CEOs.

4 classes will be operated: 2 classes combining 6th and 5th grade students, 1 class for multiculturalism, and 1 class combining 1st and 2nd grade middle schoolers. Each class is composed of less than 20 students.

Students who receive nomination by their teachers are eligible to sign up for the program. For the 1st round of selection, they will be evaluated based on their creativity, motive and passion towards education. 2nd round will be held in an interview format. Freshman orientation will be held in March and it will be announced through the SKKU website.
