Prof. Min Jung KOO selected as “World’s Recognized Young Researchers of the Year” 2018.11.16

Together with Elsevier, The Korea Research Foundation selected 10 young researchers with world-class research competitiveness and held an award ceremony at Daejeon Office on December 12th.


Elsevier is the world's largest publisher of academic research and provides citation statistics for papers published in major journals around the world through the Scopus DB.


The Korea Research Foundation (KFRI) selected a total of 10 young researchers who are Korean nationals under the age of 39 (5 natural science and engineering field, 3 life science field, 2 humanities and social science field) by analyzing the results of research citation which were done by researchers at domestic research institutes from various perspectives.

This “World’s Recognized Young Researchers of the Year” was held for the first time last year to discover a rising researchers who produced a research papers that have great academic influence.


The two institutions used the Skopus DB, an Elsevier’s academic citation information, and the Korean Researcher Information (KRI) database of the Korea Research Foundation, to extract candidates and select final winners after deliberation.


SKKU Prof. Min Jung KOO was selected for humanities and social sciences field, together with Prof. Jang Hyuk YOON from Konkuk University.


The winners are researchers who have earned a Ph.D. and produced world-class research results. Most of them have experience in performing basic research projects, showing that the basic research investment of the government and the foundation over the years has linked to outstanding results.


"I would like to encourage talented young researchers to ask questions with curiosity and to help them grow into international-level researchers," said Young Seok JI, chairman of Elsevier's joint research team.
