President Kim, Jun Young & Vice chancellor for research Graham Fleming “Joint research of energy field” SKKU announced that the president Kim, Jun Young of SKKU and vice chancellor for research Graham Fleming of the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley) signed on agreements for the exchange programs for graduate students, researchers, and professors. The event happened on July 3rd at the office of the president of UC Berkeley. According to the agreements, SKKU graduate students can take the graduate courses for a year at UC Berkeley with the much cheaper tuition than other international students. This means that the relationships of two universities are moving from perfunctory exchange and cooperation to the foundation of more advanced relationships for joint research performance. Two universities also agree to do joint research on energy field together. UC Berkeley highly values the efficiency of energy research of SKKU. SKKU established the department of energy science (Chair, Professor Young Hee Lee) which is the core of the energy research in 2008. The department is leading the multidisciplinary reproduction research in order to secure the original technology of various energy sources. 10 eminent foreign scholars and 14 Korean professors are conducting the researches. These professors are from various fields such as physics, chemistry, mechanical engineering, electric engineering, nucleonic, and so on. The University of California, Berkeley is established first among 10 UC campuses (1868). Its reputation of excellence in academic and eminence professor pool is very well known. The quality of graduate school is as good as other prestigious schools like Harvard and Stanford. UC Berkeley is a western prestigious university and currently leading the life science and energy research field in the world collaborating with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. UC Berkeley gets the most funding from the US Department of Energy and hosts the energy and bio science laboratory. Recently UC Berkeley, which is the leading energy research university, contracted JCAP laboratory from the US Department of Energy collaborates with Caltech.
