SKKU Hosts Special Talk Concert on “Living an Ethical Life”
with Professor Peter Singer

SKKU successfully held a special talk concert titled “Living an Ethical Life” at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, at Cho Byung-du Hall in the 600th Anniversary Hall on the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, inviting Professor Emeritus Peter Singer of Princeton University, a world-renowned leading figure in practical ethics.
The event was organized by SKKU’s Office of International Relations (Vice President of International Affairs: Min Hyo Cho) and was held successfully with the participation of a wide range of internal and external attendees, including enrolled students, faculty and staff, students from other universities, and high school students. In particular, despite the lecture beginning at 3:00 p.m., students lined up for admission from 11:00 a.m. on the day of the event, demonstrating strong interest and anticipation.
The event began with congratulatory remarks by President Ji Beom Yoo, and Vice President of International Affairs Min Hyo Cho served as moderator. In Professor Peter Singer's keynote lecture, he presented ways for individuals to live more ethically and the meaning of living well, emphasizing the importance of active practice in extending ethical judgment into actual action.

The subsequent dialogue and Q&A session with Vice President of International Affairs Min Hyo Cho featured more concrete and practical discussions, offering substantive advice on bridging the gap between students’ moral convictions and actual behavior. During the Q&A session in particular, students’ active participation led to a lively exchange of views on a wide range of topics.

More than 650 students attended the event, and for those exceeding the on-site seating capacity, a real-time video broadcast was provided in nearby classrooms so that more members of the university community could participate. In addition, various programs were offered in response to students’ strong interest in meeting the world-renowned scholar in person, including the distribution of Professor Peter Singer’s book 'The Life You Can Save' to the first 200 SKKU students and a signing event for 20 participants selected through an on-site event. The book distribution and signing event, in particular, further heightened students’ enthusiasm and enhanced the atmosphere at the venue.

A student who attended the event said, “It was a meaningful opportunity to think more concretely about an ethical life through a lecture by a world-renowned scholar,” adding, “It was very helpful in that it presented directions that can be practiced in real life beyond theory.”

President Ji Beom Yoo said, “I hope this talk concert served as an opportunity for students to expand their ethical thinking and deepen their reflection on social responsibility,” adding, “SKKU will continue to provide opportunities to cultivate both academic depth and social insight through exchanges with world-renowned scholars.”
