A research team led by Professor Lee Byoung Kuk of the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering(Dean: Jung-Hoon Chun) received the Best Paper Awards for two papers presented at the International Conference on Electrical Machines and Systems (ICEMS 2025), held at the Paradise Hotel Busan from November 16 to 19, 2025. In particular, the paper presented by doctoral student Jeyeong Lim, titled “Real-time State-of-Health Estimation Algorithm for Lithium-ion Battery Based on Coulomb Counting and Constant Voltage Charging Time Reset,” achieved the distinction of receiving the 1st Best Paper Prize.

ICEMS is co-sponsored by the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) and is recognized as a prestigious international conference in the field of electrical machines and energy conversion. This year’s ICEMS 2025 featured a total of 714 paper presentations from 23 countries and attracted 894 participants.

The fact that Professor Lee’s team received two Best Paper Awards, including the 1st Paper Prize, is a significant achievement that goes beyond the level of laboratory results, demonstrating the research capabilities of the College of Computing and Informatics at both the national and international levels.

The two award-winning papers focus on battery management system algorithms (BMS) for lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and unmanned underwater vehicles. These results highlight the excellence of Professor Lee’s research team, which has continuously conducted research in the BMS field in collaboration with SK On, Hyundai Motor Company, the Agency for Defense Development, and several small and medium-sized enterprises.

Professor Lee Byoung Kuk was selected as an IEEE Fellow in 2024 in recognition of his research achievements in electric vehicle chargers and BMS algorithms. He is currently leading research in these fields with around twenty integrated M.S. and Ph.D. students.
