SKKU’s Dr. Haein Lee Appointed Assistant Professor at Dongguk University at Age 29

Dr. Haein Lee of Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) has been appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Open Major, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and Convergence Education, at Dongguk University (Seoul), effective September 2025. Dr. Lee will also hold a joint appointment in the Department of Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence.

Dr. Lee entered SKKU’s integrated master’s and doctoral program in Artificial Intelligence Convergence in 2021, earned her Ph.D. in February 2025, and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Interaction Science Research Institute. At the young age of 29, she has achieved the milestone of a faculty appointment.

Since 2022, Dr. Lee has published 19 papers in SSCI/SCIE-indexed international journals, with more than 300 citations to date. Her first-author publications boast a Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) above 4, demonstrating significant academic influence. She has further proven her research competitiveness by publishing in leading global journals such as the Journal of Cleaner Production (Top 6%) and Decision Support Systems (Top 8%).

In addition to research, Dr. Lee has been actively engaged in teaching a wide range of AI courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She earned an average teaching evaluation score of 99 out of 100 in undergraduate classes, reflecting strong student satisfaction. She has also delivered AI bootcamp lectures for undergraduates and specialized AI lectures for non-major faculty members at SKKU, broadening her teaching experience.

Dr. Lee is a graduate of the DSSAL Lab (Advisor: Professor Jang-Hyun Kim, College of Global Convergence), a leading research group in the AI+X field. The lab has produced numerous SSCI/SCIE papers and top-tier AI conference publications, and in recent years has nurtured several faculty members, including Professor Dong-Yeon Nam (Macau University of Science and Technology, Department of Business Administration) and Professor Byungjun Kim (Korea University of Advanced Studies, Department of Digital Humanities).

Professor Jang-Hyun Kim, Dr. Lee’s advisor and Associate Director of the RISE Project at SKKU’s Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, emphasized his commitment to continuing to foster AI-based convergence talent and to leading advancements in the field. He added that such accomplishments were made possible through strong support from the BK21 Four Program, the College of Software Convergence, and various graduate-level initiatives led by the university headquarters.
