Dr. Seunghyun Lee, a graduate of the Department of Law, was appointed as an assistant professor at the College of Law of Dongguk University this September
Dr. Lee (Law, Class of '00) completed his bachelor's degree in law at our university and obtained his master's degree from the Graduate School of Law in August 2009 with a thesis titled "A Study on the Refusal of Performance" under the supervision of Professor Sanghyun Jeong. He went on to earn his PhD in August 2016 from the School of Law with a dissertation titled "A Study on the Right of Exclusive Possession," also under Prof. Jeong’s guidance.
Following his academic achievements, Dr. Lee held several notable positions: Senior Research Fellow at Sungkyunkwan University's Law Research Institute (2016–2017), Legal Investigator at the Korea Legislation Research Institute (2018–2019), Research Fellow at the Korean Society of Law (2019–2021), Judicial Research Officer at the Supreme Court of Korea (2021–2024), and Research Fellow at the Ministry of Justice’s Legal Counsel Office (2024).
Dr. Lee’s primary research interests lie in contract law, specifically focusing on the system of damages, the legal theory of assignment of claims, and the subsidiarity of unjust enrichment. In addition to his work in civil law, he has expanded his research into areas like patent infringement and the materiality of electronic files. He has published over 30 academic papers and received the 5th Songam Academic Award in 2018 for his exceptional contributions.
