The University began granting postgraduate degrees in 1953. In line with the long-term goal of becoming a research-centered university, massive efforts have gone into promoting the graduate schools. The programs span a variety of disciplinaries ranging from Confucian studies to genetic engineering. To address recent social demands for diversification and specialization, the University introduced many interdisciplinary programs and collaborative research programs with private industries. Non-degree programs are also offered to help executives and professionals broaden their perspectives and prepare for new challenges. About sixty percent of the students receive scholarships in and out of the school.
