The original education department opened in 1953, offering professional programs designed to prepare individuals for a variety of careers in the field of education. To meet the increasing need for secondary teachers, the College of Education was established in 1972, merging all the education departments. Always ranked as one of the best in its field, the College of Education has produced more than 3000 secondary school teacher and education specialists. In 1998, a specialty in computer education was added.
